The subject matter that provides the raw material or bedrock of essays

The locations themselves, features etc., and the ‘facts’ and events that were associated to them

Organisation

The structuring of essay material into a discussion of the topic that follows a particular sequence or order

The locations that formed the journey, their order, relationships, connections

Interpretation

The meaning or meanings given to essay material by the student

The understanding of the topic, the related locations, the value of being there, and purposes or knowledge beyond the activity
